Conan O’Brian - Last night, Conan O’Brien made his debut as the new host of The Tonight Show. He began his show with a clip of himself in a run from New York to Los Angeles, only to discover that he’d left his keys behind.

In his opening monologue, he said, “I think I timed this moment perfectly. I’m on a last-place network, I moved to a state that’s bankrupt and tonight’s show is sponsored by General Motors.”

O’Brien differed from Leno, who he replaced, by starting his show with more comedy skits filmed earlier as opposed to relying on making jokes in front of the studio audience. He made a to-do list for his new show with “move to L.A.” being the last item as he displayed a New York skyline outside his window. His new studio has an art-deco look with blue glass backdrop for the opening monologue and his desk in front of a sparkling backdrop of Los Angeles.

His first guest, Will Ferrell who was carried in by Egyptian throne bearers, offered him some “tips” on living in L.A. They included a good burger joint in Pasadena called “Burger King.” Ferrell also sang his own version of “Never Can Say Goodbye” causing the new host to wonder why sing a good-bye song on his first night. Pearl Jam was the musical guest and they debuted one of their songs off an upcoming album.
