Actor David Carradine Found Dead in Bangkok – 1970’s television actor, David Carradine, was found hanging in the closet of his hotel room in Bangkok on Thursday. It is believed that he committed suicide.

U.S. Embassy spokesman, Michael Turner, confirmed the 72-year-old actor’s death, but could not offer additional details out of consideration for Carradine’s family. He only said that the embassy was informed by Thai authorities that Carradine died either late Wednesday, or early Thursday.

According to the Thai newspaper, The Nation, Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and was staying at the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel since Tuesday. The paper reported that he could not be contacted after failing to show up for a meal with the rest of the film crew on Wednesday; and was found later by a hotel maid hanging. Preliminary police investigation found that he hanged himself with a cord used with the room’s curtains, and had been dead for approximately 12 hours. There were no signs of an assault.

David Carradine was a member of a Hollywood acting family and has appeared in more than 100 films. However, he’s best known for his role in 1970’s “Kung Fu” as Kwai Chang Caine.

In a 2004 interview, Carradine talked openly about his use of narcotics and alcohol and how he had put it behind him. He said: “I didn’t like the way I looked, for one thing. You’re kind of out of control emotionally when you drink that much. I was quicker to anger.” He went on to say: “This is a regeneration. It is a renaissance. It is the start of a new career for me. It’s time to do nothing but look forward.
