Ron Silver dies at 62 – Actor Ron Silver, 62, died of cancer on Sunday. He was surrounded by his family as he passed away in the early morning. Silver had battled esophageal cancer for two years.
Ron Silver had a history of balancing acting with left-leaning politics and surprised many when, following the 9/11 terrorist attack, he turned Republican after being a longtime Democrat. He referred to himself as a 9/11 Republican and became an outspoken supporter of George Bush and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to the surprise of many in Hollywood. He said that because of his support of the war on terror, it cost him work in liberal-minded Hollywood. He also was a speaker at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

Silver’s last public appearance was on the “Larry King Live” show in October last year, shortly before the Presidential election. He played a recurring role on “The West Wing” and other TV shows as “Veronica’s Closet,” “Chicago Hope,” and “Wiseguy.” He directed and starred in “Lifepod” which is a scientific updated fiction of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Lifeboat”.
