This morning, you’ll get a preview of the new iPhone 3.0 OS. Apple is referring to this as an “advanced preview of what we’re building.” It isn’t an actuality yet, but a bird’s eye view of what’s to come.

Some of the functions that have been widely requested such as the ability to copy and paste text, will be a part of the new software feature. According to Digg founder, Kevin Rose, who claims to have confirmation of the unveiling of this feature – “To select text, users would double-tap on a word to bring up the iPhone’s magnifying glass and then extend the ‘quotes’ to cover the necessary text and perform the relevant action. It is not known though, whether this would be limited to copying and pasting or would include cutting text outright.”

Other features that may make it into this iPhone 3.0, is the ability to unite contact information across address books and social networks like Facebook and Gmail contacts, into one main contact list.

The iPhone is also expected to include “background processing” which will allow applications to run continuously even when not in use. This means that if someone is using a Facebook or Twitter application on their iPhone, they will receive an alert signal whenever someone in their network sends them a message. It will function similarly to the push-notification system used to instantly deliver email to iPhone users. This feature will put the iPhone on the same level as other devices like BlackBerry and Windows Mobile phones, which offer this function.
