Dora the Explorer Doll – Moms all across the Internet have been concerned about the new tween doll of Nickelodeon childrens icon Dora the Explorer, and their response has been overwhelmingly negative. Moms think that the doll is a sexed-up version of the children’s icon and a poor example for kids.

The old endearing tomboy Dora with a bowl-cut hairdo wearing a casual T-shirt and shorts has been changed into a “new” Dora with long flowing hair, shapely legs and wearing a scanty skirt. Sound disturbing at all? Read on..

Mattel, who has been working with Nickelodeon, explains that the new Dora will not replace the old “Dora the Explorer” cartoon. The new Dora is an interactive doll aimed at 5- 8 year olds. Gina Sirard, the President of Nickelodeon, says, “The Dora that we all know and love is not going away.” However, some moms are confused by the silhouette that was released of the new Dora. Apparently she looked more like Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan than a young girl. Even though the new Dora looks older with her longer jewelry and longer hair, she doesn’t have on makeup and is pretty much like an average 10-year-old girl.

Based off of the research Nickelodeon and Mattel did, they found parents who wanted to keep Dora in their children’s lives and have their daughters move on to a doll that was appropriate for their age. This is why they created the new Dora for the moms who said “help us.”

Many people value what Dora (the original one) represents. Jean Pierre Dube, Professor of Marketing at the University of Chicago’s graduate School of Business says that even though it may appear that they are overacting to the new one, the important information is: “Don’t mess with this brand unless you’re very careful.”
