Dolly Parton | Dolly Parton in ’9 – 5′ Broadway Musical
Dolly Parton in ’9 – 5′ Broadway Musical – Country Legend, Dolly Parton is anxious about the Broadway debut of “9 – 5: The Musical” that she has been working on for four years.
“The thing about Broadway” she says, “is you would work for four years and close the next night – or never open at all; everything is a chance.” Nonetheless, she says, “it was fun for me. It’s a different process. I had more freedom writing for the stage than I do for records. But it is very time-consuming.”
The musical begins previews at the Marquis Theatre in Los Angeles, on April 7, with the formal premiere slated for April 30.

Parton wrote the score for the musical, including the song “Backwoods Barbie” which is on her newest album. The album, “Backwoods Barbie – Collector’s Edition” CD has three songs added to the original album. She said they purposely held the single “Backwoods Barbie” until the “9 – 5” musical.
There has been much speculation about Parton’s marriage and the secret of its success.
She is married to Carl Thomas, who runs an asphalt-paving business in Nashville. He steers clear of concerts, award shows and other industry affairs and is rarely seen in public. However their 43 years of marriage remains intact. Parton says, “The ‘I do’s’ said 43 years ago were meant for life. He always knows I’m coming home.”
Dolly is a Grammy award-winning singer; a songwriter, author, actress and philanthropist. She is one of five female artists to earn Country Music Association’s highest honor – Entertainer of the Year.
