According to Houston police spokesperson, Kese Smith, Landry was driving southbound on a city street in his sports utility vehicle when a northbound car swerved into his path and collided with his car. Both drivers made u-turns and the vehicles collided again and Landry’s car hit a utility pole. Landry got out of his car to look at the damage and was shot by an occupant of the other car who fled the scene on foot, leaving the car behind. There was a female passenger in Landry’s car but she was unhurt.

The Rockets issued a statement saying: “We are thankful and relieved that Carl’s injuries were relatively minor and that he is doing well. We are in the process of working with authorities to gather more information.” They also said that Landry dislocated a finger on his left hand in the accident.

Team officials haven’t said how this incident will affect the rest of Landry’s NBA season. On Monday night at New Orleans, he scored 12 points in 23 minutes, leading Houston to a 95-84 win. Carl is in his second season in the NBA and Houston Rockets and has managed to average 9.3 points per game this season. Landry also played college basketball at Purdue and Vincennes University.
