Implement SEO tricks in Blogger Blog

Search Engine Traffic is most valuable traffic source for all successful websites. It gives you the most natural visitors and it has been observed ( & accepted ) by many website owners that there is a direct relation between your search engine traffic and Adsense earning. So, Search Engine Optimization is the most important for your websites and blog. Google has released a “Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide“, which is very useful specially for the beginners.
Misfortunately, Bloggers using Blogger.comdon’t have as great SEO tools as the WordPress users have. Here, We are suggesting five ways to implement Google SEO tips (described in its starter guide) on Blogger platform with a hope that these would help you in getting more search engine optimization.

  • Add Description to Individual pages : Google describes the importance of these tags as “Adding description meta tags to each of your pages is always a good practice in case Google cannot find a good selection of text to use in the snippet“.

But, Blogger doesn’t provide any direct option for inserting this tag to individual pages. We suggest you this hack to insert description tag in individual pages : After publishing your post, insert the following code in the <head> section of your template -

<b:if cond='data:blog.url == &quot;POST-URL&quot;'>
<meta content='keyword1,keyword2' name='keywords'/>
<meta content='your description' name='description'/>
</b:if>

  • Optimize your URL Structure : By default, Blogger picks first few words of your post title for creating the post URL. for example, if your post title is “How to get a Free and Reliable web hosting with Free Domain ?“, Blogger will generate the URL as : yourblogurl/year/month/how-get-free-and-reliable.html. Now, you know what is going wrong :(

To make your URL more meaningful, put just the relevant Keywords in the title box while creating a post and publish it. Just after publishing, edit the post, and replace the keywords with a proper Title. Hence, you can have a URL like : yourblogurl/year/month/free-hosting-domain-reliable-dns.html

  • Make use of Edit HTML tab : the post editor of Blogger offers two tabs/modes : Compose and HTML. Most of the users (specially those having non-technical background), avoid using the HTML mode. But, believe me HTML is the easiest language in the universe. You can learn & master the basics of HTML in less than 1 hour.

After composing each post, just switch to the “Edit HTML” tab and do desired modifications such as :

  1.  Edit the links : Modify the normal <a href=”URL”>Anchor</a> and add title  or rel=”nofollow” attributes.
  2. Optimize Images : Add alt and title attributes to the <img src=”imageurl”> tags, which is not possible in compose mode.
  3.  Add Heading tags, <h1> etc.
  • Submit Sitemaps to Google: In Blogger, you have no option to create or modify XML sitemaps. Still, you can submit ATOM.XMLfile of your blog as alternative sitemap.

How to add Sitemap For Blogger Blog

For a better result, submit atom.xml with attributes like : atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=100. Actually, atom.xml consists just 25 latest post URLs and to submit all of them we need to use attributes start-index=1&max-results=100.

  • Use a better traffic tracker : Traffic Trackers are tools to analyze your visitors. There are several other Web analytics programs, who serve better than Google Analytics. Try out them and measure the impact of optimizations you make to your site, and test more tricks.

Cheers!

    Thanks for the info! Proved very useful.

    I like everything in bloggger expect its WYSIWYG editor its so limited! if I use the default option to add images it always goes to the top.. its always better to just “edit html” :D

    Interesting article and some good advice. I always wondered if there was a way to somehow manage the URL structure, but never thought about creating a post title with just the keywords, and then go back and edit the title for the visitors.

    Thanks for that tip, I’ll have to use it for my posts.

    As a webdesigner myself , I’m truely glad to see that someone thought to post this topic.

    All too many people out there don’t grasp the concept of what all is involved in our field, and I think also we’re all too often underrated
    or taken for granted. Never the less I’m glad to see that you may feel the same way I do , thanks so much for your blog!
