Re: rebate. Go to www.nextar.com and look at the bottom - it has downloadable rebate forms (you will need to send copy of receipt, UPC code from bottom of box, and rebate form - i suggest you make a copy of it!); however, I got mine from Kohl's. Does anyone know where to download maps? I tried using it on a house yesterday that is 3 years old and it said it was not available - disappointing. Also, the support stinks!

X3-08 - YUP I agree with battery draining even when turned off. If the unit is used every day it picks up the satellite signal quite faster when turned on compared to when it is seldom used. If it has not been used for days or weeks, it picks up a signal like 5 to 8 minutes, I see a "freeze" quite often and have to use the reset button. Map/POI updates my biggest complaint ! - I will definitely NOT recommend this "POS", I will discourage anybody looking for a GPS to stay away from this, I will write- in my review of this "POS" on any website available. I'm starting to look at garmin, tomtom and Navigon.

I have a Nextar Q3-01 and it has worked well for me. However it does not have Canada maps on it. Since I live near Canada I would like to get one that has the Canada maps too. So I am thinking of getting the X3-08. Several have complained about the battery going dead quickly on the X3-08. My Q3-01 will drain the battery in about 2 hours if left on. It has 2 power switches. One normal switch on the front and a small slide switch on the back that must be moved with the tip of a pen. If I turn it off with just the front switch it will go dead in a few days. However if I turn it off with the small slide switch on the back It will keep the battery charge for many weeks. My question is does the X3-08 have two power switches similar to the Q3-01?

I also bought Nextar X3-08 from Kohls on Black Friday. My deal was $65/net after 15% off card and $10 rebate. Seemed like great deal, especially since I prefer using a Gazetteer. Am having same problem as several others with battery draining quickly. Used it today for short local trip maybe 5 mi. ea. way. Wall-charged before I left. Battery went from 98% to 67% in that time while on car charger!

I should also mention, that I had a friend who bought a P3 as well, and his didn't work out of the box. He exchanged it at Kohl's and the second unit works fine, and still works fine today. The odd thing was the first one showed some weird display glitches as well. Nothing too obvious, but odd things like some icons were missing in some display modes. My feeling about Nextar GPS units is that there are probably some Quality issues with the software installs. I've come across comments from a few other purchasers who complain about not being able to get a sattelite lock quickly (or at all). My experience, is that if the unit doesn't get a lock in a minute or two (on average) then take it back an exchange it. There are lots of people who have Nextar GPS units that work great, but I don't doubt that there are a few lemons out there and there's no way to really tell if you're particular is bad. Mine regularly get s signal lock in less than two minutes (usually less than a minute).

I purchased one of these at Kohl's for my parents. I have an older Nextar P3 and have been satisfied with the performance. And you can't beat the price! Nexter does have non-existent support though. You send them email or call, and never get a response. Their web site has only improved slightly in the last year. They do not offer any map updates, though curiously, the X3-08 includes a postcard that gives information on how to submit map corrections to Navteq (not that there's any way to see the benefit of those corrections).
Even more curiously, we exchanged the X3-08 once (because we got a 30% off coupon in the mail and we got it for an even lower price). But the second X3-08 was a slightly different unit! The first one we purchases said it was manufactured in "Oct 2008" and it had it's US/Canada maps on a 1GB SD card, the second (which was also identified as a X3-08 and has the same UPD and nearly identical packaging had it's maps stored in internal flash memory (and the SD card slot was empty but available for use to play MP3s or view photos. The box and manuals were only slightly modified to eliminate the mention of a SD card. The funy thing is the manufacture stamp was marked "Apr 2008". The Maps appear identical to the 2007 P3 unit (the seem to be accurate to Late 2005 or early 2006 or so).
But I find that strange that there's apparently two different versions of the "X3-08" for sale at Kohls. You have to check the packaging close to tell the difference. I suggest trying to find the one with the maps on internal flash memory since it leave you with a free SD slot and there's no map upgrade option anyway. Just my two cents.
