Notepad Chaos Blogger Template
After checking your suggestions i decided to convert Arthemia WordPress template but i thought that it would be very simple and would not look like original version , and then i decided to convert SmashingMagazine’s Notepad Chaos WordPress Template which looks very very stylish with its illustrated design.
Overview
It has really beautiful illustration which makes me convert it , its 2 column , it has a cool navigation menu and a custom search bar , at the bottom there is a place for you which gives you the chance of writing about yourself and its totally free!
Installation
I locked specific sections such as recent posts and categories you cannot edit these sections , you do not need to edit too. I created a section for you below the link list section where you can add any widget to there. Also i installed embed comment form of Blogger , if it does not work make sure you chose embed comment form from your blog settings. When you upload it to your blog , you will see times as undefined , to get rid of this problem you should follow the following steps : Setting >> Formatting >> TimeStamp Format and now chose the 4th one and save it. Another thing i have to tell you is that you cannot see recent posts on template while previewing , you have to save it to see recent posts.
Optimizing Navigation Menu
To change About and Archives URLs you must go to your template layout and search for id=’menu-holder’ using CTRL+F combination from your browser , now you will see the codes which needs to be edited below the line i mentioned :

I have a question about a couple of hacks I’d really like, but don’t know how to do. Is it possible to add the date of the recent posts behind them (and make it look neat, without adding extra lines etc)? Also, is it possible to add the number of posts in a category behind the name?

Hi! I’m having a small problem with this template. I want my blog to be viewable only to blog authors. When I choose this option under “permissions” the “recent posts” feature doesn’t work. The posts simply don’t show up on the yellow note. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks Daniel

I have some questions about this beautiful blog template! How can I use the lables “About”, “Home” and “Archives”?
Right now there isn’t any room for a short description of the author that should easily be found on the top. It would be great if this template had a more customised layout with functions that allowed adding new gadgets with maybe information about the author, an image of the author and a java-ready widget that already exists in original Blogger templates. Can this template be more adjusted to the user interface on Blogger with lots of gadgets that can hold plug-ins, texts and pics?

Still having date issues, tried to do the special date formatting in Blogger–didn’t work. Tried to find all of the HTML having to do with the date just trying to get it off there and STILL nothing has been resolved. It works for me.
The only issue I’m having is finding the blogger archive link. I tried using the hint from a poster above about the http://your-blog.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-08-30T15%3A53%3A00-07%3A00&max-results=10000
BUT I got an error about the “updated-max” not being delimited with a ;
So, I’m lost on that one. Other than that I’m pleased with this template.

In the section that says “recent posts” it lists ALL the posts I’ve ever made which so far is 13. How do I get it to only list the last few? I worry it is going to keep growing each time I make a post that eventually it will take up the whole side bar. Thanks for your help!!!!

Webberyang: re hiding old posts…
go into “edit html” & click on “expand widget templates.” Then do a search for:
var numposts = 15;
Change this number to however many posts you want to be displayed (in your case, you want to change it to 8). You will need to save your changes before you can preview them. You can add a summary & the date of the post by changing the values of
var showpostdate = false;
var showpostsummary = false;
to “true”

don’t copy and paste, upload the theme (sorry for my bad english) and on the same page where you tried to paste, you have a place to browse and find the theme you have already loaded on your computer.
Choose it and it’s ok you can see it .
If you have date problems on the page “format” I choose the 5th date on the second menu and the 4th date of the 4th menu.
For “yellow post it ” problems, on the same page as for the date, on the first menu, choose how many posts you want to see.
For the “archives” I have quite understood it is only one possibility :
Put :http://youblog.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-08-30T15%3A53%3A00-07%3A00&max-results=999‘
where your blog is the name you have chosen for…. your blog

To fix the search bar functionality, all you have to do is find the code and replace the ‘s’ with a ‘q’

ok. i finally solved it! problems u may encounter and solutins:
1.Date – Go to settings and change the TIMESTAMP to the 4th option.
2. Search Function – Expand Html and go to the code for the search function, change all the ‘s’ to ‘q’, like some user mention above.
3. Archives – i changed it to Posts Feed, the suggestion given above dont work for me
4. Friends and Links – They will only appear unblocked after you have added some extra links using the Page elements. i also changed the size of the fonts cause they are too small, for me :p
Hope this helps i’m writing coz i’m way too free.

hi there, i tried to import the xml file, progressbar was shown halfway then suddenly shown finish ! and then it was redirected back to the import a blog page but it says below “There were problems importing the file.” and i was left confused what should i do?

how do u remove the “undefined” tab on the side? and why doesnt it show the date of the post?
I was disappointed by this conversion. Why did you lock so many parts of the template? Sure, it looks very nice, but if I can’t change it according to what I want, I will have to give up.
Well, I loved it!!! After a lot of experimentation, I finally got it customized to my liking. Thank you so much for this; I would never have been able to do my blog revamp on my own!!!

thanks for converting this template, it is really great! My only concern is how the bullet points don’t line up well for the Blog Archive gadget on blogger.
This blog is multiple authors and I can’t seem to get the posts to show the authors name under the posts (or at the top) Any suggestions?
just noticed too, when I am logged in, it doesn’t show the quick edit button or the new ‘voting’ buttons…
The image “friends & links” is cut off in this theme and it does NOT depend on how many posts are on this page!!

that’s it! i’m giving up…i really liked the template, but it seems it wont work.
About and Archive shows exactly the same thing as Home, without the date though, at firs it didnt worked out at all and i was trying to fix it with the links you gave, now its opening, but as i said it looks the same as Home.
I read whole this conversation and it seems you are not here anymore, i understand it might be borring reading people having the same troubles over and over again, but maybe you could help us once again, please!

HI, ALL, GOSU… I’M TRYING SO HARD TO MAKE THIS TEMPLATE WORK. I HAVE SPENT 2 DAYS READING EVERYONE’S PROBLEMS WHICH ARE ALSO MINE… NOT ALL HAVE BEEN RESOLVED (some people’s questions above were not answered…)
1) Gosu, have you revised this template so it works more smoothly? If so, is there a place where the latest version is available for download?
2) Is there one place where we can find the answers to all these various issues? I have fixed the date problem but all the others persist.
I am ready to give up but I love this template SO MUCH!
Specifically… (and these are stated by others, but no solutions):
– After the Blog Title, the Blog Description isn’t showing. Mine is only about 6 words so length should not be the issue here.
– I tried to copy and paste the new code for About and Archives but I’m getting an error message. I was very careful to paste these in exactly the same location and replace the old (found this on smartbloggerz):

i really love this template and im using it right now.
however, as with the menu tabs, they arent really working properly although i have instead replaced the “about” with my profile URL.
Still though, I do not know how to make the archive tab work, since blogger doesnt have a URL for archives. (if there is, i do not know how to activate it.) can you please help me with it?

Everything is fine now that I have uploaded the template, the only things failing are the dates and the “about, archives” parts!!! What can I do about them? It is not showing the month or day and how can I change the links??

Michelle – I had problems with the ‘Friends & Links’ area being cut off until I added some website links – then it showed up correctly.
How did you fix the ‘About & Archives’ sections? I am so confused with WHAT to copy and paste and WHERE exactly in the HTML portion it goes. If anyone knows please spell it out like I’m a 3rd grader!

Not sure if anyone is still checking this template for solutions to the myriad of questions asked and unanswered but I’d like to offer at least one solution I have found to date!
For the issue with correcting the link for your About tab… I first typed and published a post with my chosen “About Me” information. After that post is published click on the title to be taken to the specific URL for that page. Copy/Paste that URL and then in the edit HTML section of your blogger you’ll need to add that url to the section listed below (it’s about 3/4 the way down the page. The section will look like what’s shown below. Just add your URL where you see mine. Mine begins with http://shopbundled.blogspot …. etc. Here’s the section of code to manipulate ………….

I reacently downloaded this beautiful template and for some reason i cannot get blogger to accept its format. I’m not a computer wiz but im hopeing you can help with this. I think it said change wmt format but i’m not sure. does anyone know why blogger would be rejecting its own template?

I’ve used this template for quite a while now, and all of a sudden i’ve got photobucket logos all over the side asking me to upgrade to pro! I’ll switch templates as mine is a blog used for my job, and the way it looks at the moment is unacceptable!
I finally got everything on this template to work a few weeks ago and it’s absolutely gorgeous but today when I checked my blog, most of the images were broken because your Photobucket bandwidth has been exceeded. This makes me sad and I’d go through and save all the images to my own Photobucket account but I know I’d screw up the code and I don’t know how to get the images. It took me so long to get this template working and I absolutely love it… is there any way you could upgrade to pro or delete some of the unlinked things in your Photobucket account?

This template is beautiful but I’m having a problem with the background images.
Sometimes the page loads fine but most of the time the background image, post-it and home/About/Archive tabs do not show. Once it has loaded once, and the image is in the cache, the page will load again if you use the same route to get to it (ie: through the Blogger dashboard) but as soon as I type in the address directly into the address bar, the background image does not load again. It also does not load when viewed on another computer.
I have uploaded the template several times but it still happens.
Do you think this is an image hosting issue and I will have to save them to my own host site or do you think it is a problem with the browser finding the links in the code?
please help as I really want to use this template!

Hi I’m brand new to blogging and a complete novice. I’m happy to say I’ve managed to figure everything out except for the little blue tool icon that allows you to edit from the blog keeps showing up. I tried shutting it off in settings but its still there. Any suggestions?

hey guys.. after trying for ages today. i figured how to change the date and about. I really need help with archives!! Change Date: Settings> Formatting> Date Header Format (Sunday, September 06, 2009) Timestamp format(Sunday, September 06, 2009). Change About: Dashboard>View Profile (Copy link). Dashboard>Layout>Edit HTML (Click expand widget templates)> Ctrl+F (id=’about’). You will see the code: About I hope this helps….. and if somebody could help me figure out abt the archives pretty please!! cheers!

On the left of each post is a small graphic that says undefined, once on top in smaller letters and once on the bottom in larger letters. I am sure it is for the date but have tried changing the date settings and it doesn’t work. Can you give me some tips? It is so beautiful. Thank you for providing it.

please I need help: I downloaded and installed on an existing blog in blogspot.com your – Notepad Chaos Blogger Template – after having backedup the previous one.
But, after installation I cant find the buttons to open a new post or to go to the – personalized – section of the blog … etc.

Hey, I really like this template and I’m using it for my blog currently. For some reason, I cannot figure out how to get the “About” “Archive” tabs to link where I would like… Any way someone could tell me please? I’ve read all the comments here and on the other help comment section for this template but I can’t seem to find it that works. Also, I’m not sure what to link the Archive tab to, because I haven’t found a way to use archives other than as a widget. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated because I’d love to keep this template up. Thank you!
To someone who asked earlier, writing under the “What is this Place?” is fairly simple. When you are on Page Elements, add a text box with what you want to be there and then put it at the very bottom. The amount of text is limited, but it works
